5 Telltale Signs You are An Empath.
Does your mood change based on who you're with?
Do you hate large gatherings and need lots of alone time?
Would you describe yourself as sensitive?
If you've answered "yes" to any of these questions, you might be an empath.
Let's dive into the telltale signs.
# 1 YOU HAVE EMPATHY
Well, duh. Empathy is the most obvious sign that you're an empath, it's in the name.
Empathy is the ability to understand where another person is coming from.
You can put yourself in someone else's shoes, someone else's situation, and understand why they might be thinking, feeling, and acting a certain way.
If you're an empath, you can do this to a larger extent than most people.
You can understand why some of the sickest people act the way they do.
You understand that cheaters cheat because of their own insecurities. Murderers murder from their own abusive childhood and unhealed anger.
As an empath, you can understand why people act and think the way they do.
You aren't judgmental, you understand that it's the experiences people have in life that shape them into the person they are.
Even when someone acts in a less than favorable way, you can understand why.
You even take it a step further.
You can accidentally take on the emotions and feelings of others. Which leads us to our next point:
#2 YOU ABSORB OTHER PEOPLE'S EMOTIONS
Say you're in a room, just minding your own business.
A stressed out friend walks in the room. They just got reemed out by an annoying customer at their job.
As they tell you this story, you start feeling mad about it too!
Empaths absorb the emotions of other people like a sponge, often times without even trying.
Because of this, you'll often find yourself feeling really drained and tired around certain individuals and super energetic around others.
When you are around depressed, insecure individuals, you start to feel depressed and insecure.
When you are around happy, mellow people, you become happy and mellow.
When someone else is tired, you become tired.
#3 CONFLICT IS DRAINING FOR YOU
Whenever there is a heated argument, fighting, anger, or stressed emotions - you just want to hide in your bedroom and not participate.
Some people thrive on drama but you aren't one of them.
Heated conflicts tend to make you want to leave the situation and hang out by yourself for a while.
#4 FICTIONAL TV, BOOKS, SHOWS, AND MOVIES FEEL REAL
I have this thing where I can not stand watching rape or torture scenes on TV. If you're an empath, you probably feel the same way.
Even though something is fictional, you can still feel the emotions and experiences of characters in plot lines.
#5 YOU FEEL LIKE YOU DON'T FIT IN
This is one of the more difficult attributes of being an empath.
Sometimes you feel like you don't fit in because you feel things on such a deeper level than most people.
Surface level topics and discussions don't interest you and in fact, they drain you.
On top of that, sometimes our society and the way we're raised can make it feel difficult to talk to others about the deeper things we're feeling, be emotionally vulnerable, and have deeper discussions.
Yes, you feel deeper than most people. But you do not need to hide that. Always be open to others about your feelings and the insights you pick up on. It's what makes you special.
